to do: catch up from Making A Lather

I didn't get this purple group of blocks posted last month, during purple at the rainbow scrap challenge. These blocks are part of my rainbow irish chain, that, I have been adding to each month since last year. Last year, I made the 4 patches, and, this year, I am making the bigger block. I was inspired by this quilt.

There have been several months that I did not need to work on it, as the colors for the month were not in my quilt. As we get closer to the finish ( I only need yellow), I am wondering ...

tiny reds from Making A Lather

I couldn't wait to dig into red for the rainbow scrap challenge in September. I knew I had no shortage of red scraps - they are everywhere. Next to blue, I have more red scraps than any other color. Probably because, there are so many reds. Many of my scraps are gifted to me, and, it is a well used color among quilters. I get a lot of  small scraps in red.

I made the tiny houses from 2 inch strip bin. I look for the shortest strip and cut it 2 1/2 inches and 3 1/2 inches ...

to do: more ice cream from Making A Lather

I mentioned here, that after experimenting with how I wanted to make these ice cream cones, that, I had started making them in rainbow colors. Today, I have blueberry.

Our Tuesday quilt group met last week in one of of our members' new home. It was the first chance we have had to see it since they moved. We were very interested in her sewing room.

It is very different than mine. I tend to decorate with tiny annoying pieces of scraps that fall out of the sky, when my back is turned. I carpet with boxes and bags of ...

down country roads from Making A Lather

I am not sure why the first quilt I work on each month for the rainbow scrap challenge, is country roads. I guess because it is so easy to get started. I grab a few red 1 1/2 inch strips, stack them, cut them, and presto they are done. Nothing like instant gratification. There is a link at the bottom for the pattern.

I am sure I will be working on these next year.

I ran out of August before I ran out of purple projects to show. I made a purple row for my row x row quilt ...

ice cream for quilters from Making A Lather

I bought this pattern in May to use for the rainbow scrap challenge. I was sure I could make it easier using die cuts. The die I have for the cone, makes a fatter base.

I didn't like any of my first attempts. I think I like them better with fatter ice cream bottoms, and, that Is what I have decided I will do. I have lime sherbet.

strawberry cream

grape sherbet

This month, I hope to make cherry ice cream.

baby quilt finish from Making A Lather

I have a baby quilt finish. It came to me nearly finished - only missing one border. I can't remember where I found it. I knew it would make a great donation quilt. Our guild donates to the police department for the the kids that are taken from bad situations. They often have only a brown paper sack to take with them. We also have a healthy family organization to which we donate.

It came with a piece big enough for the back. I must say, I like starting out like this, rather than from scratch. haha.

tiny purple squares from Making A Lather

I have caught the postage stamp bug, and really can't concentrate on my other projects. I have 1 1/2 inch strips, but, very few 1 1/2 inch squares. I wasn't worried, because, I can cut squares from strips. My quilty friend was very supportive, and shared a zip lock bag of squares. It's always fun to see other quilter's fabrics. My plan was to grab a handful, and return the rest. She wouldn't take them back. haha.

My biggest challenge is having a solid strip long enough to do the whole block ...

to do: cut purple from Making A Lather

We have had great weather and have enjoyed outdoors, and, even found a monarch on our flower tubs. We have planted milkweed in our yard, but, it hasn't bloomed. What a surprise to see our own monarch butterfly.

I have spent the month cleaning and sorting my purple scraps as part of the rainbow scrap challenge this month.  I had an entire wire basket of scraps in that color. Apparently, it had been a long time since I sorted through and organized it. I certainly didn't think I had that many scraps.
I don't like the ironing ...

purple projects from Making A Lather

Today is Saturday, and the rainbow scrap challenge here. I had bigger chunks of purple scraps for the tiny houses. So, there are many repeats. I don't think I will mind in a big scrappy quilt.

I finished the shine blocks in purple for another rainbow project.

I decided to look in the ufo closet for a purple ufo that I might could finish in August. I don't remember where I acquired this little baby quilt, but, I loved it. I am thinking, I picked it up at a quilt show garage sale.

It had been embroidered and ...

more words from Making A Lather

Can I buy a vowel? This is the last of the words I need to join for my quote quilt. Now, I need to lay out all the words, and see if and how they will fit together to make a quilt. I'm scared it all won't fit. Oh, it will. geesh. I am just being a worry wart.

I am making this as part of my rainbow scrap challenge from last year. some of my letters here and here. Each month was a different color. I started putting the letters together into words this year.

Purple stars from Making A Lather

Last week, I stopped getting comments in my email...again. It took me three days to figure it out and change my settings again. I was using the new blogger. Was anyone else having that problem?

I have collected little bits of triangles, mostly, for the shoofly leader/ ender from last year. The size I am making uses 1 1/2 inch hsts. I am getting very close to finishing all the blocks I have kitted for that quilt, so, I can, with great abandon, use these little bits in a few of my rainbow projects.... or get rid of ...

purple country roads from Making A Lather

I dug out some purple 1 1/2 inch strips, and, cut a few country roads blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge. This month is purple. I really like purple, but, I don't have a lot of it in my stash. I probably have more scraps than yardage.

I found a few "I don't know what color" strips that had purple in them, and, now they are useful.

something new from Making A Lather

Ack - never in my life, did I think I would make anything with 1 1/2 inch squares. strips maybe, but, not squares - too small and hard to get accurate. But, Cathy started making these adorable blocks, and I watched, and the next thing I know, I made one. And, then, another one was done. Oh no, what happened. I really like the blocks, and I like making them.....very much
I love the quilting community and all the inspiration floating around.

I have very few 1 1/2 inch squares in a cup by my machine. Usually, if I ...

Shine a little from Making A Lather

I realized that I didn't have very many blocks done for one of my rainbow scrap challenge quilts, if, I was going to have all the blocks done by the end of the year. hmm. what was I doing wrong? I needed to  make 2 of every color, but, there wasn't 2 of every color cut. I didn't cut the whole thing at the beginning...sigh

It won't take long to catch up with the blocks, now that I have figured out what I need to do.

more letters from Making A Lather

I went to quilt guild last night. It was short and everyone wore masks. We were at least 10 feet or more apart. There was no program. Our quilt show for October has been cancelled until next year. I will be leading a workshop on Saturday. There are only 5 signed to come, but, we will have plenty of room to spread and stay away from each other. I am having trouble hearing with masks on, so it might be interesting.
I have been concentrating  on the small words or parts of words for my quote quilt. I have a ...

a blue row from Making A Lather

This is the last blue Saturday for the rainbow scrap challenge. I am not really done with my projects, yet. Good thing, I still have time. I wonder what color I will be using next week...

I had the chance to make another blue row for the rainbow row x row I am making.
I prefer to cut my pieces oversized and trim. That way I can use a standard size cut.

I  have 6 rows ready out of 13.

I have started with the blues for putting words together for last year's rainbow quote quilt. I have a ...

fun blue blocks from Making A Lather

I have fun tiny houses

and wonky stars

The color for July and the rainbow scrap challenge is dark blue. I have plenty of scraps in those colors. I find that the triangles I cut, from the flip corners on the roof of the houses, work well for the wonky stars.
I am also working on Jamestown landing this month since it is all blue. I have half of it put together. And, I have all the rows made.

a bit of blue from Making A Lather

I have enough blue scraps that I could probably use it every month, and, not see the bottom of the barrel. So, I don't mind that we are doing blue again this year for the rainbow scrap challenge. I made these country roads blocks with whatever my hand picked from the 1 1/2 inch bin as long as it was blue.

One of my one monthly goals for July is to join my Jamestown landing blocks into a top. I am using them as a leader/ ender as I work on other blue rainbow projects.

I have three ...

pink progress from Making A Lather

Happy fourth of July. May God bless America.

Last Saturday, we lost power during a short thunderstorm. When we lose power, we also lose water and flush toilets. I didn't get a chance to post the last of my pink projects for the rainbow scrap challenge. And, I didn't get a chance to visit other blogs for my weekly inspiration. I really missed that.
I make the wonky stars from 2 inch scraps and leftover triangle pieces.

I make the tiny houses from 2 inch scraps.

My final count for the pink dresdens is 12. That is a ...

pink quilty fun from Making A Lather

The rainbow scrap challenge for June is pink. I have a dresden plate in pink that I have included this month, along with the projects I try to do each month in the rainbow color.
I made one block for shine using 2 1/2 inch strips.

I made 10 blocks for country roads using  1 1/2 inch strips. I really like these blocks.

We have had a wonderful week of summer weather, sunshine, and not too hot. The garden has been happy, and so has hubby who really likes to be outside. He is still off work for ...
